Topography of Melting
Gerleen Rai and Eliza Wapner
Opening September 13, 6-10pm
Topography of Melting stages a collaboration between textile, water and cochineal dye, where three elements interact and play. As the dye traces unpredictable pathways, the textile becomes both terrain and memory, recording the journey of water and pigment and revealing the previously unseen complexities in both.
Topography of Melting is an artistic exploration between New Orleans based artists Gurleen Rai and Eliza Wapner.
Gurleen Rai is the founder of Zim + Teemo, a multi-disciplinary studio spanning slow, ethical design, art and animation. She works with unconventional, scavenged and thrifted materials to create one of a kind artifacts out of her Bywater studio.
Eliza Wapner is an artist and designer. Her artistic practice uses textiles in installation to explore themes ranging from the fashion industry, to pain, to corn farming. She also makes intentional garments using natural dye as color. These days you can find her as the studio director at Doorman Designs in Algiers Point.
